This was our second time staying at Villa Tucan Tango with our family and I am happy to report the new owners—Lucie and Cam—are so lovely and helpful and the house is now fully air conditioned, a wonderful improvement over just the 2 masters last time. Lucie was immediately responsive to all my emails and requests. She made sure to buy beach chairs, a beach umbrella and cooler at my request. She even went to the market to buy milk and some fruit since we arrived late at night. We were lucky enough to meet Lucie and Cameron as they were there at the same time and we enjoyed getting to know them. They are invested with the community and are so kind. Lucie supplies all paper products and soaps and even coffee! This makes it so much easier to pack and not to have to check on a bag.
Word of warning-we figured we could drive to and from SJO as we had been here before. DO NOT DO THIS! Waze only gave us Route 2 directions which took 4.5 hours and it was very scary-dark, curvy roads and fog and rain. Use their driver Nacho—he is wonderful and will pick you up at SJO and drop you off. We were in touch with Lucie the whole time on WhatsApp and she met us at the bottom of the hill when we finally arrived.
The house is very bright and airy with great views and is so lushly landscaped. I loved all the tropical plants. Comfy beds and thick towels. Fun outdoor showers with views too. We awoke to the sounds of birds and howlers most mornings. We saw a lot of tucans in the trees. No monkey sightings but we sure heard them. Some spectacular sunsets too and we love the infinity pool. The views are lovely and you can hear the sounds of the waves crashing below. It is really nice to get the house cleaned after 4 days. Pool was cleaned 2 or 3 times in a week too. We never cooked anything but breakfast as we ate a lot of ceviche from the booth at the bottom of the hill and went out to dinner. We went to the waterfall at Uvita, kids did parasailing with Alex Badilla, went to Ventanas beach twice (our favorite and a great swimming beach with caves at low tide), walked Dominical beach and saw the local wares. This trip was more for relaxation than activities as we had done so many last time. Our only disappointment was a snorkel trip to Cano Island that I booked months in advance with Perla del Sur-the first day they got to the bottom of the hill to the Villa and they realized they could not get up the hill so they left without even telling us and they second time they came on time but never even knocked on the door and they just drove away.
Lucie is making massive improvements—a huge deck with a yoga studio, a lower covered deck with hot tub and pool table etc. I can’t wait to see them all as we would happily return for a third time! Thank you Lucie and Cameron and best of luck on your March wedding. Can’t wait to see the deck when it is done.
Our Stay At Villa Tucan Tango
📅 Enjoyed in October, 2019.
We loved everything about our stay at Villa Tucan Tango. It was easy to relax into this spacious Villa with great views of the jungle and the ocean. We appreciated Nacho and Huascar who helped to make our travel a seamless experience, providing everything from transport to offering local suggestions, all of which worked out well for us. We spent hours enjoying the pool even when it was pouring rain. Waking up to the sounds of the monkeys, watching the Tucans and the evening sunsets gave us such a feel of the jungle experience. I think we really appreciated this most of all. To top it all off, the day before we left, we were visited by a group of White-Faced Capuchin monkeys. Lucie couldn't have been more helpful preparing us for our stay. Together, she and her staff make sure that you have a wonderful stay. We highly recommend Villa Tucan Tango. For us, it will always be a special place.

We really enjoyed our stay at this property. Upon first arrival it was beautiful. The flowers and plants surrounding the entrance made you feel like you were already in paradise. Once we entered the home we were amazed by the view and the spacious and comfortable surroundings. The rooms are beautifully decorated and we all with air conditioning which came in handy for the hot days. We spent almost all of our time in the pool or by the pool and once you see it you’ll know why. The view is worth every penny and the pool was perfect for cooling off in the afternoon.
The location is great as it’s very near the beach and beach towns. You need a 4x4 for the road but it was an adventure by itself. We went in the rainy season and even then had no trouble traversing it. But 4 wheel drive is a must. The ocean view even coming down the road is a photo op. We had all the cooking utensils we needed and grocery spots are not far. The grill worked great and we used it several times. The only thing that was slightly frustrating was the slow internet and tv/dvd situation. We had to use the WiFi from the rental car bc it had better reception. Also we couldn’t use any of their dvds as they had the wrong type of player. And the tv reception was spotty. We contacted the owner and they were willing to have someone drive into town to get a new one. We declined bc it wasn’t that important to us. That being said we didn’t go to Costa Rica to use the Internet or watch dvds, so it was a minor thing to us. The power went out 6 times when we were there- 2 times that lasted an hour, and the rest for less than a minute. Again, we were not bothered by this but something to note if that’s something that bothers you.
All in all we give this place 5 stars. We had a wonderful time and would definitely go back. I already miss it and I’ve been home 3 days lol. We had tucans and lots of birds visit us. We could hear the howler monkeys in the morning and watch showers over the pacific in the afternoon. We grilled chicken outside and swam first thing every day. And we even saw a full rainbow over the mountains. Truly a spectacular experience. Highly recommendable. The owners made us feel welcome and were quick to answer all questions and help us have a great time.

Villa Tucan Tango was phenomenal! We immediately fell in love with the secluded setting of the property. The house is nestled back in the jungle off of the main road but close enough to get to stores, beaches, and restaurants within a few minutes. As we pulled up to the house we were amazed of how beautiful the surrounding flora was. Pictures of the house don’t do it justice. The view of the ocean and jungle is spectacular especially while relaxing in the pool. The house is huge with everything you needed to feel at home. We really appreciated having Huascar around so that we could pick his brain on local knowledge of the area as well as troubleshooting anything that might’ve come up. Nacho was also very friendly and helpful in getting us to and from the airport. He is another great local resource in helping you navigate Costa Rica. We used the Uvita Information center for a rental car throughout the ten days and found it extremely helpful that the rental car was dropped off at the house for us and picked up when we left. The house was not far from great restaurants, Reptilandia Reptile Park, Uvita waterfalls, horseback riding, ATV tours, whale tale beach, and super markets.
One of our favorite things to do was to sleep with the doors open (screens closed of course) and listen to calming sounds of the jungle, and wake up every morning to the calling of howler monkeys. We would begin the day by the pool with a spectacular sunrise while drinking a perfect cup of Costa Rican coffee made the Tico way. Our kids, 5 and 9, couldn’t get enough of the pool. From when they woke up in the morning to right before they went to bed they were in the pool. We couldn’t believe the nature that surrounded the house. Everyday we seen something new (Tucan, Sloth, White Faced monkeys, Howler monkeys, insects, reptiles, and bats). One of the most memorable things about Villa Tucan Tango was the relationships gained from our stay. Lucie and Cameron are truly wonderful people and we’re glad to have met them. We appreciated all they did to make our experience a very special one. If you are looking for a house with privacy, views, modern amenities, spectacular pool, wildlife, with the Costa Rica experience, this is your place.
Perfect Costa Rican villa!
📅 Enjoyed in June, 2019.
We were attracted to the villa for the generous size, the wonderful common areas, the beautiful Costa Rican construction and interior touches (we discovered something new every day), the seamless indoor/outdoor living, the beautiful infinity pool and outdoor area, and the absolutely gorgeous panoramic ocean view over the jungle canopy. The villa exceeded expectations on every count. It's a wonderful home for a relaxing and fun Costa Rica adventure. Owners Lucie and Cameron were the best! Friendly, thoughtful and responsive, we enjoyed all of our interactions and appreciated the ways they made our stay at the villa special! In the area, there are so many wonderful places to explore and things to do that you could easily fill a few weeks. But, the pool and view were so wonderful, we also planned time to relax and enjoy the villa. We took advantage of the private driving services of Nacho who also acted as a knowledgable local guide and always available concierge. We would love to go back to Costa Rica and would definitely stay at Villa Tucan Tango again!
